Songwriting allows us to communicate, to connect, to feel and to learn. Just as novel and essay writers often don’t know exactly what they’re going to say until they put their pen to paper, songs sometimes evolve in ways the songwriter least expects. They reveal what needs to be said at a given moment; sometimes, their emotion and impact even catch us by surprise.
