I bet you know the feeling: You meet someone who simply understands what you do and why you do it. For me, a first meeting at a coffee shop turned into a 3-hour conversation, which then led to brainstorming, developing a podcast, deciding on a logo, recording our first episodes, generating ideas for a web site and social media accounts, writing intro music, etc. You get the picture. I wasn’t planning on doing any of that, but it just felt right. And exciting. In the midst of an international pandemic, when everything feels harder than usual, something that feels right is just what I needed at that moment.
And then, as you’re about to share this new thing you’ve created with a larger audience, you step back and take a breath. You realize how much is possible in a short time (less than 3 months!) when you’re inspired and motivated and, most importantly, when you have a fabulous new friend and coaching partner.
During our first conversation at a coffee shop in August, Nichole North Hester and I realized that we share a deep admiration for coaching, as well as a mutual recognition of just how exciting, messy, rewarding and challenging it can be. Nichole refers to coaching as “heart work”, and I couldn’t agree more. We shared some of the successes and challenges that we’ve faced as coaches, and we acknowledged how much we’ve learned by doing the work in diverse contexts, both about the coaching role and about ourselves.
This weekend, Nichole North Hester and I are launching our new coaching podcast, Inside(r) Coaching 4 Educators. This podcast allows us to share some of the insider knowledge that we’ve gained about coaching over the years, and we hope it will also inspire our coaching colleagues to share their knowledge with each other. Just like we both did in our first coaching roles, which we discuss in episode 1, we’re figuring it out as we go. We hope you’ll join us on our journey and spread the word!
You can listen to the podcast now on Spotify (more options coming soon!) and learn more about the podcast on our landing page and about Nichole's coaching business, True North, here.
